Beijing-based photographer Chen Man (b.1981) is the subject of the newest book by 3030 Press. Chen is China’s leading commercial photographer and the country’s most successful women photographer ever. She has produced shoots for magazines including Vogue, Elle, Nylon, Esquire and Cosmopolitan and acclaimed campaigns for brands such as Motorola and Adidas.
Her works typically combine a range of elements, from international pop culture to Chinese cultural motifs and have been shown at exhibitions both in China and overseas, including at the landmark exhibition China Design Now (2008) at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, for which she produced the signature visual image.
This unique publication is the first comprehensive survey of Chen Man's career and covers the spectrum of the artist’s photography, from her earliest cover shoots for Vision magazine, which she made while still a student at the Central Academy of Arts in Beijing, to new as yet unpublished works made in 2010. Articles and interviews by Karen Smith, one of the world’s leading experts on Chinese contemporary art and an introduction by the Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Liu Xiangcheng discuss artist’s work in context and provide a fascinating insight into Chen Man’s working processes and inspirations.
